about me
Karise McNamee
counselling social worker
It is important to me that your counselling space feels safe and non-judgmental, is supportive and affirming, and that you walk away from each session feeling valued and heard.
I’m really passionate about providing you with flexible, empathetic support that helps you show compassion to your mind and body, and make changes in your life that align with what you want. Together, we will work on:
understanding yourself better
building on your strengths
learning practical tools to manage your emotions, behaviours and relationships
improving your self beliefs, and
increasing your energy and motivation for life.
I have a lot of experience working with people who might feel a bit nervous about starting counselling, so don't worry—I'm here to make this as comfortable for you as possible, at your own pace.
Being a neuro-affirming practitioner is really important to me. I genuinely love to learn about how you experience the world, and I most definitely value either professional or self- diagnosis.
I am neurodivergent (if working with a neurodivergent therapist is important to you!). You can jump around topics, or info dump with me without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. I love hearing about people’s passions and interests and my fast brain can keep up! (I might even turn your interest into a new counselling tool for us, if I’m on the ball!)
my qualifications
I am a Counselling Social Worker with a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) from Charles Sturt University. I aim to bring a unique integrative blend of professional expertise, lived experience, and personal insight to my work.
I have over 12 years of experience in trauma informed and neurodiversity-affirming mental health practice, and lived experience in ADHD, reproductive trauma, endometriosis, perimenopause, and managing chronic health challenges. This means I genuinely understand how deeply this can impact how you feel about yourself and the world.
I also work as a Charles Sturt University academic, as I am passionate about being at the forefront of research and best-practice for neurodivergence in women in an authentic and compassionate way. My passion for understanding and supporting the distinct needs of ADHD and AuDHD women drives my continuous professional development and advocacy efforts (It’s definitely a ‘spin’ of mine!).
I am an Associate Member of the Australasian ADHD Professionals Association. I teach a number of mental health and social work subjects at Charles Sturt University and I sit on the Australian Association of Social Workers Ethics Council. I also speak regularly at events and conferences as part of my advocacy efforts for better assessment, diagnosis, and support for ADHD and AuDHD females.

reviews
What a wonderful experience I have received with Karise. She has helped me thorough my infertility struggles, ptsd and adhd. She is truely deserving of all the five star reviews she receives. Not only is she down to earth, compassionate and proactive in her work as well as giving useful tools almost immediately. She so easy to connect with, so if you’re wondering if you should book yourself in. Do it, you won’t be disappointed and it totally worth it. Thank you again Karise from me and my family.
